A bicycle route through downtown Enschede and along the German border.
Enschede is the largest city in Overijssel and originated in the early Middle Ages as an agricultural settlement. Around 1300, Enschede received city rights. The two bridges over the canals the Veldbrug (in today's Marktstraat) and the Esbrug (in Langestraat, near the Hofpassage) still date from that period. After the city fire in 1862, Enschede grew into the most important center of textile production in the Netherlands which lasted until the sixties in the 20th century. You will drive through the region of Twente. The undulating movement resembles the wings in the theater. The landscape is therefore described as coulisse landscape. You drive a route that breathes tranquility and space. You can fully recharge in this piece of nature. For a large part of the route you can see Germany in the distance and you will even ride a stretch of cycle path that runs flush with the border. So take your passport with you! A greater vacation feeling than here is hardly possible. You will pass Het Rutbeek, a recreational area created by sand excavation. It consists of a marsh and five different beaches. There are regular events, diving, kite flying, swimming and barbecuing. A nice place to watch people after the tranquility of nature.
