A varied route along meadows, forests and sandy plains.
This bicycle route shows you the beautiful and varied surroundings of Overijssel. Beyond Eerde you will pass a sand drift, also called the Sahara. Because many sheep used to graze here, the ground became bare and bare of vegetation. The wind allowed sand drifts to develop. Man planned forests to counteract this. In a few places, such as here, the sandy plain can still be seen. Ommen is a town located on the Overijsselsche Vecht, in the Salland region. The place is already mentioned around the year 1100 as a ford along the Vecht. In 1248 Ommen received city rights. You pass fields and meadows with in between forests and large farms to arrive at the nature reserve Beerze. The village of Beerze is a very pretty farm swarm settlement and a typical Esdorp. On the black wooden barns you can see characteristic straw weaving. Through the woods it continues to Marienberg, along Canal Almelo-De Haandrik to arrive at Den Ham. This is still a real Brinkdorp; a brink was a central place where cattle were driven to, which used to be surrounded by farms and was a place of gathering. After this varied landscape, you can reminisce in peace.
