Cycling route through the dunes of Wassenaar
A route past royal houses and the dunes between Wassenaar and Katwijk.
The route passes Castle Duivenvoorde, a still inhabited castle and estate dating back to the 13th century. Over the centuries it has been rebuilt regularly under the direction of different architects. During the museum season, you can take a guided tour of the castle. The castle gardens are open all year round. Here you will see alternating forest, tall bushes and close to the sea low buckthorns. Enjoying the dunes, you will naturally arrive in the fishing village of Katwijk. The various villages including Rijnsburg and Valkenburg have grown together. Along the grasslands you pass the Valkenburg Lake. In this recreational lake you can swim or just relax. Heading towards Wassenaar, you cycle via Den Deijl where the entrance to De Horsten estate is located.
