This bicycle route explores the rustic countryside and historic villages of North Brabant and Limburg, specifically through Liessel, Griendtsveen, Helenaveen, and Neerkant. The route leads through beautiful landscapes of the Peel and offers a delightful combination of nature, history, and culture. It was dug in the 19th century, specifically between 1853 and 1856, and was originally constructed to transport peat from the Peel areas to larger waterways. The canal was named after Helena Petronella Hubertina, wife of Jan van de Griendt, who was the major force behind the reclamation of the Peel.
