Cycling in Ede
Ede sits on the edge of two landscapes, and you notice it the moment you get on a bike. To the east begin the woods, heathland and drift sands of the Veluwe. To the west the Gelderse Vallei opens up, greener and wider.
Twelve routes run through Ede. They cross the Ginkelse Heide, where sheep graze in season, and pass through the Planken Wambuis nature reserve. Towards Schaarsbergen the going gets hilly, with the height differences that give the Veluwe its character. Prefer the valley? Head for Lunteren and Barneveld instead, past farms and poultry country, with views that run for miles.
Along the way you pass Heelsum, Wolfheze, Otterlo, Roekel and Oud-Reemst, and the routes link up with Arnhem and Oosterbeek. Lengths range from 33 to 61 kilometres, enough for a morning or a full day.
Good starting points are junctions 60, 61, 62, 65 and 66, all within a few kilometres of the town centre. For a break there are Grand Café Bospark Ede, De Wagenschuur and Camping Zuid Ginkel.
Rather build your own loop than follow a fixed route? Use the route planner. It starts from the junctions around Ede and counts the distance as you click.
